After shifting the family trade from spices to gun powder, Late Shri Nrisingha Prasad Daw, expanded the family business in Rishra on the banks of Hooghly while competing with the better supported and better connected English merchants to take the family business further. As the business expanded and as Kolkata started becoming more of a business center, the business and the family shifted to Kolkata and started residing at 12/2 and 13/1A, Varanasi Ghosh Street (Now Vivekananda Road) roughly between 1791 and 1800. It was at this time that late Shri Shib Narayan Daw, one of the grandsons of the patriarch Late Shri Nrisingha Prasad Daw built a Thakur Dalan with the intention of celebrating Durga Puja, which was in vogue for most old and aristocratic families, in those days.
This property was expanded around 1878. Around hundred years later, after the demise of Late Shri Narasingha Chandra Daw who took the family business to newer heights, his property was split between his three sons and one of the sons with his family, started residing at 13, Shib Narayan Das Lane in North Kolkata. However, later after the untimely demise of his son, daughter-in-law, wife, and daughter, he shifted back to the old property.

Late Shri Narasingha Chandra Daw, known to the British as Nursing Chunder Daw, laid the first stones for the gun business that the family boasts of today and handed over the family business and tradition over to his sons who took it further ahead. On his father's demise, Late Shri Nandalal Daw, being the elder son, took charge of the family business and following his father’s footsteps, further glorified the business and the family name. His younger brother Late Shri Asutosh Daw also started his own business and steered it to success.
Late Shri Nandalal Daw, the eldest outlived both his brothers and was in charge of the various estates left behind by his father and the various Pujas, including Durga puja. Shri Nandalaw Daw died heirless but before his demise he formed a Debottar estate (Nandalal Daw Memorial Devottar Estate) that would look after the expenses of Durga Puja, primarily and other pujas, the year round that had been initiated by Late Shri N C Daw. He also handed over the rest of the properties, business and estates to his nephews.
Currently, the functioning of the trust lies with senior family members.
