A T Daw and Co.
While Nandalal Daw was given the primary responsibility to look after the business and office of N C Daw and Co, alongside contributing to the family business, his younger brother, Ashutosh Daw worked in a shop at Chandni Chowk owned by an English Merchant who sold Horse Reign, Saddles, and other necessary stuff for riding. Ashutosh Daw’s honesty and efficiency led to the English trader transferring the business along with the goodwill in 1834 when he left for his homeland. By sheer luck, along with the present business, he had just acquired an arms business permit which also got transferred to Ashustosh Daw. It is from here that he and his descendants have put in all efforts to bring the business to it’s present day state.
This shop initially started off in the same property that was handed over by the British trader from whom Ashutosh Daw got the shop and the gun trade license. With time and with the business flourishing further, the need for another shop became evident. In the mid 1800s, a new property was acquired at 148 Dharamtalla Street. Owing to its location beside the Tipu Sultan Mosque, it was very difficult to start a business of arms at that location. However after considerable amount of restraints, it was possible to start the shop successfully at this location which remains in its pomp and glory to its present day with a most unique name - Ashoo Tosh Daw & Co.
